When he goes to a home or a business to inspect a floor, he will advise the client what will work best in that situation and what has to be done to prepare the old floor for the new floor. There are situations that call for the existing floor to taken right down to the original plywood.
This sometimes happens when the client wants porcelan or ceramic tile on an old floor. To make the existing floor strong enough to support the tile, another layer of plywood may have to be installed so there is no "give" to the floor which in turn may cause the new tiles to "pop" out or even crack with the weight of someone walking over it.
